«I miei sono lavori sull’assenza. Questi luoghi nascono per essere fruiti da milioni di persone, io li fotografo nel momento in cui sono vuoti ma c’è nella loro rappresentazione la proiezione di tali presenze. Attraverso la luce artificiale ne disegno i volumi e impongo una visione rigorosa e analitica in netto contrasto con l’irrazionalità dei soggetti».
In questa nave da crociera i passeggeri non stanno dormendo in cabina.
È una nave deserta, senza turisti che la “abitano”, i cui spazi sono vuoti, e privi della loro funzione originaria. Tuttavia le luci artificiali esaltano i dettagli di piscine, arredi, scale e passerelle: spazi che diventano come dei modellini posticci, perdendo quello splendore che di solito si cerca nelle navi da crociera. Così, nelle immagini, i divertimenti a bordo sembrano poco attraenti.
«Mine are works about absence. These places are born to be enjoyed by millions of people, I photograph them when they are empty but there is in their representation the projection of such presences. Through artificial light I draw their volumes and impose a rigorous and analytical vision in stark contrast to the irrationality of the subjects». In this cruise ship, the passengers are not sleeping in their cabins. It is a deserted ship, with no tourists “inhabiting” it, whose spaces are empty and devoid of their original function. However, the artificial lights enhance the details of the pools, furnishings, staircases and gangways: spaces that become like fake models, losing that splendour that one usually looks for in cruise ships. Thus, in the images, the entertainment on board looks unattractive.
