Di notte le piste da sci innevate sono abitate solo dai tralicci elettrici e dagli impianti di risalita: enormi macchine che costellano il paesaggio di ruote, cavi elettrici, fili metallici, cartelli, illuminati da potenti riflettori che ne esaltano i dettagli.
Di giorno, sono luoghi di turismo e schiamazzi, che brulicano di svago e di gente di ogni età; di notte hanno un’altra vita, silenziosa, e perdono la loro primaria funzione, diventando spazi metafisici, a tratti inquietanti.
Nelle immagini, scattate negli impianti sciistici in Val D’Aosta, osserviamo questi giganti metallici come se fosse la prima volta: ora siamo costretti a guardarli, aspettando che torni la luce.
At night, the snow-covered ski slopes are only inhabited by the electric pylons and ski lifts: enormous machines that dot the landscape with wheels, electric cables, wires, signs, illuminated by powerful spotlights that enhance their details.
During the day, they are places of tourism and hustle and bustle, teeming with entertainment and people of all ages; at night they have another life, silent, and lose their primary function, becoming metaphysical, sometimes disturbing spaces.
In the images, taken in the ski facilities in Val D’Aosta, in the North of Italy, we observe these metallic giants as if for the first time: now we are forced to watch them, waiting for the light to return.
